Contest: Breaking the Bank

March 19, 2010

This week's contest is brought to you by the Smithsonian Channel, which airs Footprints on the Water: The Nan Hauser Story on Saturday at 8pm.

After a month of box office records, How to Train Your Dragon looks to end March on a high note. More importantly, it is the target film in this week's box office prediction contest. In order to win, one must simply predict the opening weekend box office number for How to Train Your Dragon. Whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going over, will win a Smithsonian Networks prize pack that includes a Smithsonian t-shirt, a tote bag, and two DVDs: The Big Blue and Stories from the Vaults: Season 1. Meanwhile, whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going under, will win a Capitalism: A Love Story prize pack that includes the film on Blu-ray and a mini-poster signed by Michael Moore. Entries must be received by 10 a.m., Pacific Time on Friday to be eligible, so don't delay!

To enter, send your prediction for the opening weekend gross, along with your name, address and phone number to contests@the-numbers.com. The winner will be determined on March 29th, 2010 once we have the official opening weekend results.

About Footprints on the Water
Footprints on the Water: The Nan Hauser Story, follows the personal adventure of Nan Hauser, a conservationist who has dedicated her career to studying the behavior of whales and dolphins in Australia and the Cook Islands. She is the founder and director of the Center for Cetacean Research & Conservation, which aims to conserve cetaceans (the fancy name for the order of 78 species of whales, dolphins and porpoises and their ecosystems).

As if her life wasn't exciting enough, she is pursuing her PhD at Southern Cross University in Australia and spends some of her time teaching and practicing medicine, as she is a registered nurse. For her, being a scientist isn't a job- it's her life passion. Check out a sneak peak of Nan and her quest to make a difference and be sure to watch the show on Smithsonian Channel this Saturday, 3/20 at 8PM.
