On Thursday the 10th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards(R) Nominations were announced. Here is a list of all the nominations in theatrical categories as well as a brief reaction to them.
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role
All three movies in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy have been nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. Neither of the first two movies won that award, so that could make Return of the King the early favorite.
Conversely, all other nominations for Outstanding Cast include at least one individual nomination with the exception of In America, which could leave it as the dark horse in this race.
Double Golden Globe Nominee Scarlett Johansson was overlooked by the S.A.G. nominations committee.
On the flip side, I was very please to see Peter Dinklage's work in The Station Agent recognized.
Cold Mountatin received only one nomination and Big Fish was shut out. If this is indicative of how the rest of the award season progresses, it will all but eliminate both movies' chances at breaking into the $100 million Club.
At 13 years old, newcomer Keisha Castle-Hughes is the youngest nominee in this year's batch. But the youngest ever was in 2002 when then seven year old Dakota Fanning was nominated for her work in I Am Sam.
