Go, Diego, Go!: Diego's Ultimate Rescue League is the third DVD release from this show I've reviewed this year alone. And that's not counting compilation DVDs that Nickelodeon has put out as well. Odds are if you are reading, you know by now what kind of show this is. For those who don't...

The Show

Go, Diego, Go! is part of the "Ask and Pause" school of interactive TV shows. The fourth wall is broken constantly by the characters, and at various times throughout the episode, a character will ask the audience a question and then pause for the answer. This interactivity is said to increase a child's involvement in the show, thus increasing the chances they will learn about the animals featured.

This DVD features just three episodes, but one of them is a double-length episode called...

  1. Diego's Ultimate Rescue League
Diego's father is a World Animal Rescuer and Diego wants to be just like his dad. In order to do that, he has to travel to Rescue Island where he will compete with his team in a series of animal rescues to prove they have what it takes to earn their Animal Rescuer's badge. His team consists of Juma, the desert expert; Shanti, the forest expert; Burgin, an expert diver; and Yang, the mountaineer. They have to travel throughout Rescue Island looking for golden eggs, each of which holds an animal they have to get back to the wild. I wonder if the rescues they have to perform will test the specialized expertise of the members of Diego's team?
  2. Ocean Animal Rescuer
Diego is off to Mexico to reunite with a dolphin named Bottlenose. They previously met when Diego and Baby Humpback Whale rescued him and now he wants to be an Animal Rescuer as well. He gets his chance shortly after Baby Humpback Whale arrives and Diego spots some sharks heading toward several sea turtles. But after the rescue, Diego has an even bigger problem, he's late for dinner and the fog means he doesn't know which way to get home.
  3. Diego Rescues Prince Vicuña
Diego travels to the mountains of Peru where he meets Victor Vicuña. (A vicuña is very much like a Llama or an Alpaca.) Victor needs Diego's help, because the prince of the vicuñas has gone missing and the king and queen think he has been lost. But no animal is truly lost when Diego is around.

The Extras

There are no extras on the DVD.

The Verdict

Go, Diego, Go!: Diego's Ultimate Rescue League is your standard four-episode, single-disc release, the kind which dominate the preschool market. If your kids are fans of the show, they will love the DVD, especially the first episode, which has a bigger sense of adventure to go along with the longer running time. On the other hand, the price per minute is only average for this type of release, and there are no extras.
