DVD Sales: True Grit in Battle for Top Spot

June 27, 2011

While three new releases reached the top five, none were able to sell as many DVDs as True Grit. That film sold 446,000 units over the week for a total of 1.36 million after two, lifting its total revenue to $20.95 million. Battle: Los Angeles could make claim to top spot despite finishing second in terms of units with 428,000, as it was tops in terms of dollars with $7.39 million. This was a soft in comparison to its box office numbers, but its Blu-ray sales did help make up some ground. Red Riding Hood was well back in third place with 203,000 units / $3.04 million, which again is a little soft. Hall Pass placed fourth with 181,000 units / $2.85 million, which is even weaker than the two other new releases for the week. Just Go With It fell from second place to fifth with 144,000 units / $2.30 million for the week giving it totals of 570,000 units / $9.63 million after two.

The only other new release to chart was Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son, which placed seventh with 104,000 units / $1.81 million

There was one more entrant of note, as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I climbed into sixth place with 117,000 units for the week, which pushed its total sales to 5.10 million. It became just the second release of 2011 to reach that milestone.
