DVD Sales: Decoding the Home Market

It was a really slow week on the home market with only two new releases reaching the top 30. One those was Source Code, which led the way with 386,000 units / $5.54 million. Rango slipped to second place with 248,000 units this week for totals of 1.42 million units / $24.57 million after three. Its one of the best-selling DVDs of the summer, but the competition is rather weak. Limitless added 169,000 units / $2.70 million to its running tallies, which now stand at 590,000 units / $10.62 million. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I is inching towards 6 million units sold and potentially top spot for the year. This week it sold 111,000 units and generated $1.54 million in sales pushing its totals to 5.81 million units and $80.15 million. How weak were DVD sales? Mrs. Doubtfire climbed into the top five. Really? $8 sales helped it sell 92,000 units while generating $742,000 in revenue.

The only other new release to chart was Dylan Dog: Dead of Night, which landed in 15th place with 48,000 units / $956,000 for the week, which is actually more than it made during its opening week at the box office.
