DVD Sales: Rio's Month Long Holiday on Top

September 7, 2011

It was a tragic week on the DVD sales chart as none of the new releases were blockbusters. Rio remained on top of the chart for the fourth week of release, selling an additional 180,000 units and generating $2.70 million in revenue. In total, 2.76 million units have been sold with total revenues of $41.44 million. NCIS: Season Eight placed second in terms of units with 151,000 units, but first in terms of revenue with $5.89 million. Dexter: Season Five slipped to third place with 110,000 units / $3.07 million for the week and 436,000 units / $12.75 million after two. Something Borrowed sold 106,000 units / $1.67 million for the week, lifting its totals to 319,000 units / $5.04 million after two. Phineas and Ferb: The Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension opened in fifth place with 96,000 units / $1.47 million, which isn't bad for a TV movie, but it's so good that it is worth buying.

The only other new release to chart was Blitz, which opened in 13th place with 45,000 units / $628,000. The re-release of Bambi II was right behind with 43,000 units / $859,000.
