Dora the Explorer: Dora's Storybook Adventures - Buy from Amazon

The second Dora the Explorer release this week is a box set of three previously released single-disc DVDs. Of those three, I previously reviewed one of them, Dora Saves the Crystal Kingdom. So what are the other two DVDs? And is the combined box set worth picking up?

Dora's Fairytale Adventure

  1. Dora's Fairytale Adventure
Dora and Boots meet the Gate to Fairytaleland. It doesn't look like a gate. Once inside Fairytaleland, they meet a bunch of fairytale characters from Snow White, to Jack and Beanstalk, etc. They even meet the Wicked Witch, who puts a sleeping spell on Boots. The only way to wake him is for a true princess to hug him, but there are no princesses. Dora will try and become a true princess, but she will need your help.
  2. What Happens Next
Dora reads Boots the story of the three little pigs from her storybook, but when they get to the end of the story, Boots wants to know what happens next. What happens next is Boots and Dora jump into the story and meet a lot of fairytale characters and go on an adventure to rescue the king's mother.
  3. The Magic Stick
While Exploring, Boots and Dora are on the lookout for a bird's nest, a cocoon, and... a stick. That's a strange thing to want to find. Sticks are so common that you don't really need to look to hard to find one. But when they do find a stick, it's a magic stick. But to get it to work, they have to go to the highest hill.

The Extras

There are a few songs to listen to, including one sing-along, and a photo gallery.

Dora Saves the Snow Princess

  1. Dora Saves the Snow Princess
This double-length episode begins with Dora reading from her storybook to Boots, Benny, Isa, and Tico. They want to hear a story about a snow princess. Fortunately she has the perfect story for all of them. It's about a little girl named Sabrina, who dreams of living in a place with snow instead of the dry hot place in which she lives. But when she rescues a dove, she discovers she's the snow princess and the world is transformed into her paradise. The snowy paradise doesn't last long, as the witch comes and kidnaps the princess and melts the show. Now Dora and her friends have to jump into the storybook and rescue the Snow Princess.
  2. Dora's Jack-in-the-Box
Dora's baby brother and sister are sick, so Dora is looking for a toy to buy them. A Jack-in-the-Box really wants to be a gift, and Dora buys him. Now they have to get home as fast as possible, because they bought an impatient Jack-in-the-Box apparently.
  3. Bark, Bark to Play Park!
Dora and their family are going to the park for a Twin Day Party. Dora, Boots, and their puppy Perrito go early, because Perrito is also a twin and is really excited about seeing his brother.

The Extras

There's an interactive map and if you complete it you get to listen to a short clip of a song. There's is also another music video to watch.

The Verdict

Dora the Explorer: Dora's Storybook Adventures costs roughly half as much as buying the three DVDs separately, so even if you have one of the three DVDs, it is still a good deal.
