Per Theater Chart: Unbreakable Vow

February 22, 2012

No films topped $10,000 on the per theaters chart; in fact, none of them come close. The Vow came closest with an average of $7,798. Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance was the best new release at an average of $6,968, while the best new limited release was Undefeated at $6,633.

The best of the rest of the new limited releases was Bullhead with an average of $4,610 in seven theaters while On the Ice was right behind with an average of $4,475 in four. Thin Ice and Michael were neck-and-neck with averages of $3,463 and $3,366 respectively. Cirkus Columbia missed the Mendoza Line with just $1,284 in one theater, while Deep in the Heart was even worse with just $737 in 63 theaters.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • 2012 Oscar Shorts crossed $1 million, if you include holiday Monday.
  • Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu also hit $1 million, although it did so slightly earlier.
  • A Separation got to $2 million, and it has the potential for more milestones, especially if it wins an Oscar.
  • Pina also reached $2 million, and it too could hit more milestones with an Oscar win.
  • A Dangerous Method topped $5 million just before the weekend, but that's as far as it will go.
  • The Artist made it all the way to $25 million before the weekend it is already more than halfway to $30 million. Getting there will be easy, and unless it is shut out on Oscar night, it will go further.
  • The Descendants managed to hit $75 million, which is an amazing number for a limited release. This is more than Jack and Jill and just behind Moneyball. Like a lot of films that reached milestones in this past week, this one could benefit from Oscar wins on Sunday and still has a shot at more milestones as a result.
