Thinking About the Per Theater Chart

Think Like a Man was a surprise hit and the only film to top $10,000 on the per theater chart. However, Darling Companion came very, very close with an average of $9,991 in four theaters.

There were other new limited releases that did quite well, including Marley, which opened with an average of $6,238. Given its theater count, this is an even more impressive opening. Likewise, To the Arctic opened in 50 theaters earning an average of $5,405. Meanwhile, Goodbye First Love was right behind with an average of $5,269 in four theaters. Downtown Express was not as strong during its debut with $3,474 in its lone theater. Jesus Henry Christ only managed an average of $2,688 in three theaters. My Way missed the Mendoza Line with less than $18,000 in 22 theaters for an average of just $810.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Bully got to $1 million just before the weekend and it is already halfway to $2 million, but its per theater average is getting low so its long range prospects are slim.
  • The Raid: Redemption reached $3 million just before the weekend and it is now more than halfway to $4 million. However, it's per theater average is low enough that getting to $5 million might be asked a bit too much.
  • Shame just made it to $4 million over the weekend, but that's as far as it will go.
  • Jeff, Who Lives at Home also reached $4 million, but it has a slim shot at $5 million.
