My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic: Royal Pony Wedding - Buy from Amazon

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic has become a surprising hit, not just among the target demographic (young girls) but also among older males (Bronies). It's not the only cartoon to find an audience among adults, but there is a bigger stigma against this show than some others. Will the second DVD release please its original target demographic? Will it convert more into Bronies?

The Show

  1. A Canterlot Wedding
Spike Delivers a message to Twilight Sparkle about the upcoming wedding in Canterlot and Princess Celestia wants the Mane Six to help with the wedding, organizing the reception, preparing the food, designing the dress, etc. However, she has no idea what wedding that is. That's when Spike gives her the first message, which states Princess Mi Amore Cadenza, a.k.a., Princess Cadance, is getting married to Shining Armor... Twilight Sparkle's brother. Twilight Sparkle's brother is getting married, and he didn't even tell her. While everyone is excited about the wedding, Twilight Sparkle is upset for obvious reasons. However, it turns out there's more happening in Canterlot than just a Royal Wedding. There's been threats made against the Pony capital and Shining Armor is in charge of the defenses. Twilight Sparkle forgives Shining Armor for forgetting to tell her about the wedding, and then she becomes really excited when she learns who the bride is. Princess Mi Amore Cadenza is Princess Cadance, Twilight Sparkle's old babysitter.
That excitement sours when Twilight Sparkle notices changes in Princess Cadance. Firstly, she doesn't even recognize Twilight Sparkle, then she throws away the food Applejack make for her, she insults Rarity's dress. Twilight Sparkle thinks she's no good for Shining Armor, but the rest of the Mane Six thinks it is just wedding jitters. But after Twilight Sparkles sees Princess Cadance put a spell on Shining Armor, she knows there is more to this than just wedding jitters. ... But can she convince anyone else?
  2. Hearts and Hooves Day
It's Hearts and Hooves Day, which is the pony equivalent of Valentine's Day, and the Cutie Mark Crusaders (Apple Bloom, Scootaloo, and Sweetie Belle) make their teacher, Cheerilee, a special card. The three of them learn that Cheerilee doesn't have a special somepony, and decide to get her a date. They decide to set her up with Big McIntosh, Apple Bloom's bigger brother. When their first attempt doesn't work, they use a love potion. You can guess how well it turns out.
  3. Sweet & Elite
Rarity has to go to Canterlot, in order to pick up the materials she needs to make an important dress for Twilight Sparkle for Twilight Sparkle's birthday. However, while in Canterlot, she runs into Fancypants, an important high society unicorn, and she gets invited to a number of functions. She spends so much time with Fancypants and his friends, that she neglects to finish the dress on time. And then, she decides to go to a high society function instead of going to her best friend's party.
  4. The Best Night Ever
The Mane Six are going to the Grand Galloping Gala and as the song goes,
"All our dreams and our hopes from now until hereafter,
All that we've been wishing for will happen at the Gala, at the Gala!"
That's really high expectations. Can reality live up to those expectations? Of course not. But how will they deal with disappointment?

The Extras

There are sing-along versions of two songs, plus some printable color pages.

The Verdict

All four episodes on My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Royal Pony Wedding are very entertaining. They start with an big adventurous episode, but also have ones that have simpler messages friendship, romance, etc. There are not a lot of extras on the DVD, but the price-per-minute is better than most shows aimed at the same target demographic. And yes, even those not in the target demographic could be entertained by this show. Its crossover appeal is high, thanks mainly to the high amount of mystery and action in the two-part episode that starts the DVD.
