Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Complete Series Megaset - Buy from Amazon

For a long time, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was the longest running animated series on American TV. They started releasing the show on DVD nearly a decade ago, but this week, they are releasing the complete series Megaset. Is it worth picking for those that waited? Is it worth upgrading to?

The Show

This will be a rather short review, as over the years, I've reviewed quite a few of the past releases. (These can be read here, here, here, and here. (There might be other reviews I missed.) So my opinion of the show it pretty well known. I consider it one of the ten best cartoons from the 1980s. The Blue Skies era was better than the Red Skies era was, although most fans will admit that the show got really cartoonish and the gritty reboot was welcome, for a little while. The lost of Shredder was fatal to the show. There's still enough good episodes, even during the weaker era, that the show is worth checking out, while the first four or five seasons are rightly considered classics of the time period.

The Extras

So is there anything new for the Megaset? Sadly, there is not. They didn't even fix the chronological error in the episodes. While there's nothing new on the DVDs themselves, the Megaset comes in this really cool Turtle Van. It's not as detailed as it is on the cartoon, but there are some cool features. The wheels even spin. On the other hand, I'm not sure how well it will protect the DVDs inside. I do have jewel cases I bought to deal with spindles and boxes like this, so I'm set.

The Verdict

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is widely considered one of the best cartoons from its time and if you don't own the series on DVD yet, but were a fan growing up, this Complete Series Megaset is worth picking up. On the other hand, the more series you already own, the less value this release has.
