2013 Awards Season: Lincoln's Double-Win Still Leaves it Behind Argo

January 28, 2013

The SAG handed out their awards over the weekend and while Lincoln took home two awards, Argo continues its surprising run by winning the big award of the night.

The categories and winners were...

Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role

Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture

Notes and Reactions...

  • Argo beating Lincoln for best ensemble cast is a bit of a surprise. Argo has been winning a lot more awards than people thought it would, so this is less of a major surprise and more of a continuation of a trend.
  • A lot of people thought Jessica Chastain had overtaken Jennifer Lawrence as the favorite for the Best Actress Oscar; however, with the latter's win for The Silver Linings Playbook, she's back in the lead.
  • Daniel Day-Lewis and Tommy Lee Jones both won for their performances in Lincoln, so the film is continuing to take home the hardware.
  • Anne Hathaway's win for Les Miserables is perhaps the least surprising win of the night. Even people who hated the movie, and there were a lot of them, thought she was fantastic in her role.
  • Skyfall might not have earned the Best Picture nomination that many thought it deserved, but it did win a SAG for stunts.
