RoboCop rose to first place with $35 million in 37 markets for a total of $70.28 million after three weeks of release. The film's biggest opening came from Russia where it earned first place with $5.72 million in 1,153 screens. It opened in second place in Mexico with $2.90 million on 564. It earned third place in South Korea with $3.67 million on 635 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $4.31 million. It slipped to third place in the U.K. with $2.53 million on 436 screens for a two-week total of $8.16 million.
The LEGO Movie rose to second place with $28.4 million in 5,596 screens in 42 markets for a two-week total of $52.3 million internationally. Of this, $13.48 million was earned on 547 screens in the U.K., which was nearly five times the second place film, The Monuments Men. The film isn't doing particularly well internationally, at least compared to its domestic run. It is doing well when compared to its $60 million production budget.
Beijing Love Story earned $25 million over the weekend for a total opening of $33.15 million in China. This includes $16 million on Valentine's Day, which was a record for biggest single day for a 2D film.
Frozen added $18.2 million in 40 markets over the weekend for a total of $579.7 million internationally and $956.1 million worldwide. The film remained in first place in South Korea with $5.82 million on 1,218 screens over the weekend for a total of $66.99 million. This is the biggest total in that market for an animated film and the second biggest foreign film of all time, behind just Avatar. It is now about a week away from overtaking Despicable Me 2, while a couple of weeks after that, it will become just the 18th film to reach the $1 billion milestone worldwide.
The Wolf of Wall Street rose a spot to fifth place with $14.03 million on 3,979 screens in 42 markets for totals of $225.46 million internationally and $336.14 million worldwide.
The Monkey King was the first of two China films that finished back-to-back. It earned $13.0 million in 8 markets over the weekend for a total of $158.2 million after three.
Up next was a fellow Chinese film, The Man From Macau, which added $10 million in seven markets for a total of $67.95 million, also after three weeks of release.
Les Trois Freres Le Retour opened in first place in France with $8.22 million on 701 screens. It also debuted in Belgium and Switzerland for a total opening of $8.82 million on 767 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $8.88 million.
The Monuments Men debuted in ninth place with $8.75 million in 19 markets for a total opening of $8.78 million. It managed second place in the U.K. with $2.71 million on 489 screens, which was its biggest market. On the other hand, I would argue it did better in Italy, where it earned second place with $2.13 million on 392 screens, and in Brazil, where it topped the chart with $984,000 on 251.
American Hustle rounded out the top ten with $6.69 million on 1,686 screens in 20 markets for totals of $72.29 million internationally and $213.74 million worldwide. It recently became David O. Russell's biggest hit domestically and it is about to do the same worldwide. The film earned second place in Germany with $2.13 million on 300 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $2.34 million.
