The Admiral: Roaring Currents had a stunning opening with an estimated $43,000 in its sole theaters. It will be interesting to see if the film can maintain this success as it expands wider. The overall box office leader, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, was second with an opening weekend average of $17,055. The Guardians of the Galaxy remained in the $10,000 club for the second weekend of its release earning an average of $10,305.

There were half-a-dozen other new limited releases, led by What If. That film was playing in a lot of theaters for a limited release, 20 to be exact, so its opening weekend average of $6,695 was actually really good. The Dog was next with an average of $5,469 in two theaters. Aa Gaye Munde UK De earned an average of $4,500 in 30 theaters. Fifi Howls from Happiness wasn't as strong earning $2,728 in one theater. Entertainment was next with an average of $2,297 in 111 theaters. Deepsea Challenge was the weakest of the new limited releases earning an average of just $493 in 304 theaters.

This past week also saw milestones reached for several Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Magic in the Moonlight topped $2 million over the weekend and it will have little trouble getting to $3 million by this time next week.
  • As expected, Boyhood got all the way to $10 million over the weekend. It has peaked at the box office, but it should still get to $15 million before too long.
  • A Most Wanted Man also topped $10 million over the weekend and like the previous film, it should also get past $15 million before long.
