During the past week promotional websites for several movies were launched and some older ones added additional content. Here the list of this week's releases, a couple of new sites and few updates, including this week's winner Kung Fu Hustle - Official Site. If you know of any new movie websites not on this list feel free to e-mail me with the details.
Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera
Current Content: A new teaser trailer replaces the old one.
Batman Begins
Current Content: There are some new images in the image gallery. Actually, they were added not last week but the week before.
Birth
Current Content: A few video clips were added to the site. As I said when the the flash site first launched, it is a very understated site, but considering the controversial nature of the film that is probably for the best.
BloodRayne
Current Content: The teaser trailer is available on the video game site.
Brother to Brother
Current Content: The image gallery and history sections were added.
Enduring Love
Current Content: Not much has changed since the site first launched, just some news / reviews were added to the site. The first four minutes are also available to watch at Apple.com, but it requires iTunes.
The Incredibles
Current Content: There are a couple of new features, but they are marked coming soon. The key feature here is under downloads and is called simply, "Mask." I assume it is a Halloween mask as will be added very shortly, in time for Halloween, obviously.
It's All About Love
Current Content: Standard Strand movie website with just the synopsis and the theatre listing.
Kung Fu Hustle
Current Content: The flash site launched this week, and it's great. It has all the usual features, (synopsis, cast and crew bios, etc.) plus extras like audio clips and games. Like the rest of the movie, the audio clips are in Cantonese but your can read what is said. Two of the four games are still marked coming soon, but the ones are Axe Gang Rampage, which reminded me of Smash TV and is very fun. And Pigsty Panic, which was a typical platform jumping game, (never was a big fan of those.) The site also has enough sound and animation to keep the surfers' attention. The only problem I have with the site is the slow load times, unacceptably slow at times. So slow it felt like I was stuck on dial-up again. But an inadequate server shouldn't stop the site from taking home the lively Weekly Website Awards.
Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events
Current Content: The secondary site, CountOlaf.com added the Olaf's Award Winning Stupendous Trailer, which is a re-mix of the original teaser trailer. Very entertaining and probably the best trailer I've seen all week.
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
Current Content: One of several new flash sites that launched this week. This one has more style than substance with just the synopsis, character intros, trailer and an additional clip so far. There is plenty of animation on the site including clips in the character intros. I feature that really stuck out was the background music. It was funny at first, but then it just sort of bugged me.
Ocean's Twelve
Current Content: The new trailer was added to the site, as was a feature called Mastermind Challenge, but that's still marked coming soon.
Polar Express
Current Content: Another new flash site on the list this week. This one is easily the most interactive, but there's more content in the regular site. Only the first two sections can be explored at the moment, and some of the features there are still marked coming soon.
Racing Stripes
Current Content: The placeholder site has been redesigned, but the trailer is gone.
Ray
Current Content: No changes in the site since it first launched a couple of weeks ago. But it was great then and it's still great now.
Saw
Current Content: This site should have been much better. It's obvious a lot of work went into the sight with an aim for high interactivity. However, like a poorly made adventure game from 90s, it's more of a clickfest / pixel hunt. It needs branching before it can be called truly interactive. Add in the mood the site sets and it's very close to being an award winning site.
Seed of Chucky
Current Content: In a smart move, there are new features to correspond with Halloween, specifically three masks you can print out and wear. Of the features that were marked coming soon last week, only the Target Practice game was added to the site.
The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants
Current Content: Just the movie title so far.
Spanglish
Current Content: The flash site launched this week but it's pretty light on features. So far it only have the synopsis, image gallery, the trailer and an extensive look at the script. A very extensive look at the script. There are a couple of other features marked coming soon, (Cast and Crew and Ask the Director) but that's it.
