During the past week promotional websites for several movies were launched and some older ones added additional content. Here the list of this week's releases, a couple of new sites and few updates, including this week's winner Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason - Official Site. If you know of any new movie websites not on this list feel free to e-mail me with the details.
Alfie
Current Content: This site has all the usual features and plenty of extras, including lots of music and videos. In fact, every section starts with a clip from the movie and uses a different song clip as its background music. Other features include several clips from the movie, a featurette about the music, clips from all the songs on the soundtrack, a personality quiz and more.
Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera
Current Content: The flash site launched this week, and it has a real focus on the music. Normally this would be a good thing, but I have a particular dislike for most of Andrew Lloyd Webber's music. The site does have a lot of features, synopsis, production notes, (separated into section for the music, costumes, etc.), cast and crew (bios marked coming soon), image gallery, teaser trailer and more. There's still a lot marked coming soon, the aforementioned bios, full trailer, TV Spots, clips, soundtrack media player. So much so that it makes judging the site now a bit premature.
Batman Begins
Current Content: A few more photos were added to the site just after I uploaded last week's column, but I can't get over how ugly the Batmobile is.
Blade: Trinity
Current Content: The cast and crew bios were expanded, and there were two text interviews added to the site.
Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason
Current Content: Another new flashsite this week. This one has all the usual features, synopsis, cast and crew bios, etc. presented with strong amount of animation and lots of sound. Each section starts with an audio clip from the movie, for instance. But the focus of the site is the four aspects of Bridget's life, Men, Friends, Family and Career. These sections contain the more interactive features like a skiing game, pop culture quiz, personality quiz and more. There's also a heavy focus on videos, including clips from the first movie in the Embarrassment Timeline. Speaking of videos, there is also an interview section, but it is a bit of a mess, the Quicktime versions are missing and the Windows Media versions pop open another window just to have the Media Player start up. Doesn't look professional. Lastly, there are clips from 8 songs you can listen to as background music, but unfortunately, the site doesn't rotate through the songs automatically. Different sections do use different songs, so as you explore the site you can hear all of the clips, but it would be best if they just had them on random repeat. Still, these two complaints won't stop the site from winning the humiliating Weekly Website Award.
Brother to Brother
Current Content: No new updates since last week.
Callas Forever
Current Content: Simple site without any sound or animation, which is disappointing since the film is about an opera singer.
Christmas with the Kranks
Current Content: Two more games were added to the site: Kitty Kranks, which is a Pac-Man clone and Snowball Fight, which is pretty much what it sounds like. Also, the promotions section was added and it contains info on the soundtrack site, (marked coming soon) and a bunch of contests.
The Devil's Rejects
Current Content: The teaser trailer was added to the site.
Fade to Black
Current Content: This site has very little animation and no sound, which is odd considering the film is about a convert.
High Tension
Current Content: No real contest so far, although there is a little bit of sound and animation.
In Good Company
Current Content: There was a cosmetic change in the placeholder site, but there was no new content.
Imaginary Heroes
Current Content: The site has just the press kit and an image gallery.
The Incredibles
Current Content: With the film opening tomorrow, all of the rest of the features marked coming soon should be added, and for the most part, they were. The last of the First in Line clips, more behind the scenes, cast and crew bios and more. An excellent site that had won the Weekly Website Award a long time ago.
Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events
Current Content: The section for Shady Characters was almost added. The menu now pops up, but all the characters are still marked coming soon.
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
Current Content: The Cast and crew bios were added to the site.
Noel
Current Content: The site only has the synopsis, cast and crew bios and the trailer.
Ocean's Twelve
Current Content: Mastermind Challenge was added to the site. Turns out it's a contest.
Polar Express
Current Content: Another new flash site on the list this week. This one is easily the most interactive, but there's more content in the regular site. Only the first two sections can be explored at the moment, and some of the features there are still marked coming soon.
Racing Stripes
Current Content: The placeholder site has been redesigned, again, but now we have the trailer, character bios and audio clips, but the synopsis is gone.
Seed of Chucky
Current Content: The image gallery was added to the site this week. But that still leaves a lot of feature yet to be added for next week's opening.
White Noise
Current Content: Slightly new design this week, with a few new additions, image gallery, downloads and A Look Inside, which is a video clip explaining E.V.P. A better explanation can be found here.
