DVD Releases for May 13, 2008

May 12th, 2008

The summer blockbuster season is upon us, so it's not a very good time to release a top-notch movie on DVD. There are a high number of releases, little in the way of top-notch releases. In fact, arguably the best release of the week is a Blu-ray catalogue release, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe - Blu-ray Edition - Buy from Amazon. And if you don't have a Blu-ray player, grab The Great Debaters 2-Disc Special Collector's Edition instead. More...

Can't Touch the Duchess on the Per Theater Averages

February 26th, 2008

The Duchess of Langeais was the number one film on the per theater chart this week, earning an average of $11,126 in two theaters while Oscar-winner The Counterfeiters earned an average of $10,939 in 8 theaters. More...

Movie Website Reviews for Weekend of February 22, 2008

February 23rd, 2008

Only nine movies were releases this week, and there were only six sites to review (not counting the one that crashed my browser). The three other wide releases each had respectable sites, but nothing that is really amazing and the flashier the site, the weakest content. Charlie Bartlett - Official Site was a previous award-winning site, and I see no reason to change that now. More...

Good Omens for Signal and other Limited Releases?

February 22nd, 2008

Oscar weekend is not a good time to put out a limited release as the target audience will be preoccupied. So it is a little strange that there is an Oscar nominated film, The Counterfeiters, coming out tonight. More...

Don't Let the Limited Releases be Left in the Cold

September 21st, 2007

We are starting to see award season heat up with not only a couple of potential award season players opening this week, but several others expanding wide. However, with a lot of competition, some might get lost in the shuffle. More...

2007 Preview: September

September 1st, 2007

After a record-breaking summer, we come to the worst month of the year. There are a few films that look promising, but for the most part the month is filled with projects that should probably never been given the greenlight to begin with. September is a dumping ground for failed projects, and like most similar times of the year, it is crowded with 20 movies that at least have a shot at opening or expanding wide over a period of just four weeks. Five new releases a week is far too many, even if they were all high quality at least half will fail just due to the competition. More...
