Saw is Seen by Fewer on the Home Market

February 3rd, 2007

It was good news / bad news for Saw III. Good news: Not only was it the best new release it also top the overall rental charts with $7.62 million. Bad news: That was down significantly from Saw II's debut last year. More...

Employee of the Month is the Rental of the Week

January 27th, 2007

New releases dominated both charts on the home market with Employee of the Month taking top spot on the rental charts with just $5.31 million during its first week of release. More...

DVD Releases for January 16, 2007

January 16th, 2007

2007 continues its slow start with little in the way of quality first run releases. The only one that is worth picking up is The Protector - Buy from Amazon, but the quality of the movie is a little low for it to be DVD Pick of the Week. On the TV on DVD front the best of the best was Doctor Who - The Complete Second Series - Buy from Amazon, but here the price is a little high, which lowers its appeal. To find the DVD Pick of the Week you have to dig really deep and come up with Purgatory House, which can be purchased through Amazon or direct from their official site. More...

International Details - Slim Pickings

January 15th, 2007

Apocalypto was the best of the rest this weekend pulling in $8.3 million over the weekend for a running tally of $20 million on the international scene. Its biggest single market was the U.K. where the film opened in third place with $2.62 million on 385 screens, (including very limited previews), which was a record for a foreign language film. It did even better in Italy with $3.17 million on 316 screens placing second. Given the film's R-rating, it should outperform its domestic total giving it a target box office of over $100 million worldwide. More...

Saturday the 14th Turns Out to be the Really Unlucky Day for The Grudge

October 17th, 2006

It is reported that Friday the 13th costs the American economy $500 million as there are some people so afraid of that day that they are too scared to leave the house. That doesn't seem to be true for the movies, as Friday was the only day to outpace last weekend. Overall the box office managed $110 million, 1% lower than last weekend. However, that was 25% more than the same weekend last year when all three new releases bombed. More...

Crime Pays Way Better Than Retail

October 10th, 2006

October officially washed away the stench that is September with the overall box office beating expectations at a total of $110 million. That is just shy of 10% higher than last weekend and 5% higher than the same weekend last year. Almost all of this growth can be attributed to The Departed, helped by its amazing reviews. The question now is whether it will have better legs than last year's number one film? More...

Movie Website Updates for September 30 - October 6, 2006

October 7th, 2006

Good week for websites, but most were smaller updates or new sites with just a few features. Two sites, Happy Feet - Official Site and The Prestige - Official Site, stood out above the crowd, but both will need a few more update to take home the Weekly Website Award. More...

Departed and Chainsaw Face-off in Theatres

October 6th, 2006

Martin Scorsese begins his latest campaign to win that elusive Oscar as The Departed looks to take first place over the weekend. The other new releases this weekend are unlikely to win any awards, but with total production budgets just a fraction of The Departed's, they could be more profitable. More...

2006 Preview: October

October 1st, 2006

It's October, that means there's more hits, more Oscar hopefuls, and more horror films being released. But more importantly, it means September is over. September seemed weaker than normal in terms of top box office draws, but even though October is bound to produce more hits, the box office potential still seems soft. I only see one $100 million movie, but a least a few more might come within striking distance. More...

Movie Website Updates for September 9 - September 15

September 16th, 2006

High quantity on sites this week, but many of them were for new releases, most of which haven't had any updates in a while. Those that did have updates were generally quite small, but one site stood above them all, Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny - Official Site, which is easily the winner of the Weekly Website Award. More...

Movie Website Updates for September 2 - September 8

September 8th, 2006

After a very busy month, the number of site on this week's list dropped off dramatically. The decline in quantity was accompanied by a decline in quality with no site jumping out as the obvious choice for the Weekly Website Award. The Guardian - Official Site came the closest, but it will have to wait till more features are added for that honor. More...

Movie Website Updates for August 26 - September 1

September 2nd, 2006

Another busy week with plenty of top-notch films to chose from In the end, however, it was a two-way race between The Black Dahlia - Official Site and Stranger than Fiction - Official Site with the former site winning out by a narrow margin. More...

Movie Website Updates for July 29 - August 4

August 4th, 2006

Third week in a row where the number of sites featured on this list has topped 30. With such a busy week it would take something different to win the award, and that's something Michel Gondry excels at delivering giving The Science of Sleep - Official Site the Weekly Website Award. More...

Movie Website Updates for July 15 - July 21

July 21st, 2006

Another busy week, but unlike last week there was no massive blockbuster launching its flash site. Two sites stood out this week, (not counting past winners), and they are wildly different both in terms of style and in terms of the movie they are selling: Accepted - Official Site and World Trade Center - Official Site. The former is goofy and seriously immature, while the latter is one of the most emotional sites I've ever seen. In was nearly a coin flip, but in the end I went with Accepted - Official Site, but I would be willing to bet the other site will win before the movie comes out. More...

Movie Website Updates for July 8 - July 14

July 14th, 2006

It's a good week for website with what could be the last big hit of the year launching its flash site. That movie, Miami Vice, and its Official Site, is the winner of the Weekly Website Award. More...
