DVD Releases for May 27, 2008

May 27th, 2008

There's a small section of big-name first run releases this week, but that doesn't mean there's little to buy. In fact, there are several DVDs that were contenders for DVD Pick of the week including some TV on DVD releases (Absolutely Fabulous - Absolutely Everything - Buy from Amazon and Degrassi The Next Generation - Season 6 - Buy from Amazon), classic cinema (The Thief of Bagdad - Criterion Collection - Buy from Amazon), foreign cinema (Come Drink With Me - Buy from Amazon and Heroes of the East - Buy from Amazon), as well as a collection of short films (The H.P. Lovecraft Collection - Volume 1 - Cool Air, Volume 2 - Dreams of Cthulhu, Volume 3 - Out of Mind, and Volume 4 - Pickman's Model). It would be nearly impossible to name just one of these releases as the DVD Pick of the Week, but The Thief of Bagdad - Criterion Collection - Buy from Amazon would likely please the most people. Quartet of Oscar Contenders top the Per Theater Chart

December 12th, 2007

While many obvious Oscar bait films have failed to connect with critics or moviegoers this fall, Juno came practically out of nowhere to become a top contender. Not only has it earned 92% positive reviews, it also earned an average of $59,124 over the weekend in 7 theaters. And, since Wednesday, amassed an impressive $81,887. Atonement also did well enough to give it a serious shot at picking up some hardware with almost $800,000 in 32 theaters for an average of $24,901. Last week's duo of debuts held well with The Diving Bell and the Butterfly earning an average of $19,200 in 3 theaters during its second weekend of release. Meanwhile, The Savages expanded from 4 to 9 theaters while earning an average of $15,828. More...

Movie Website Reviews for Weekend of December 7, 2007

December 8th, 2007

Another slow week for websites with more movies lacking real official sites than having sites that are award contenders. The best site in terms of style is His Dark Materials: The Golden Compass - Official Site while the best in terms of content is Juno - Official Site. If you combined those two, you would have a great site. Combining the two movie might produce different results. More...

Another Week, Another Oscar Showdown

December 7th, 2007

It's a great time of year for fans of limited releases as it feels like every week there's a least a couple award-worthy films coming out. This week the one-two punch comes from Atonement and Juno. There are also a few other films that are worthy of attention, but sadly there are a lot of misses on this week's list as well. More...

Movie Website Updates for October 7, 2007 - October 13, 2007

October 14th, 2007

Quite a few full sites launched this week, but as is the case most times, there were pretty Spartan at the moment and it will take a few more updates before we can tell if they are award-worthy or not. That said, it was a site for a movie that opens this week, Lars and the Real Girl - Official Site, that won the top prize as it finished adding all the material marked coming soon this week. More...
