DVD and Blu-ray Releases for February 22nd, 2011

February 22nd, 2011

It's a pretty good week on the home market, all things considered, with two $100 million first-run releases on this week's list. On the other hand, there doesn't feel like a whole lot of depth and there are about as many featured reviews as other releases, if you count late reviews and ones where I'm still waiting on the screeners. One of these late reviews, Megamind could be the Pick of the Week, but I'm giving the Blu-ray one last chance to arrive before its release on Friday. More...

DVD Rentals - Long-term Rental

June 9th, 2009

New releases were a little more plentiful on the rental chart than they were on the sales chart, but a holdover still led the way. Paul Blart - Mall Cop earned first place for the second week in a row, generating about 30% more rentals than Taken, which rose to second place. More...

DVD Releases for May 26th, 2009 - Part I

May 26th, 2009

It's a slow week, not that you can tell from the number of spotlight reviews. Over the past week, I received close to a dozen DVDs that were late. Fortunately, I was able to get to all of them, at least I until this afternoon when a couple more arrived late. (It never ends.) As for the DVD / Blu-rays coming out this week, there's not much of a selection. The best is Jeeves & Wooster - The Complete Series, but the lack of extras prevents it from being awarded the DVD Pick of the Week. On the other hand, the best on this week's list is Star Trek - Original Motion Picture Collection, which actually came out a couple of weeks ago. Even so, it is deserving of the DVD Pick of the Week. A slow week plus a lot of late reviews still results in a list so long it had to be spit into two. The second part can be found here. More...

Per Theater Chart Empties Out

January 28th, 2009

There wasn't a single film to reach $10,000 on the per theater chart at the weekend. Slumdog Millionaire led the way with $7,562, which is a better average than the film has earned in three of the five past weekends, despite expanding to the widest it has ever been by a large margin. More...

Movie Website Reviews for the Weekend of January 23rd, 2009

January 25th, 2009

Short list with only four films, only three of which have actual websites. There were only two sites that rated above average, and only one site, Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans's Official Site that was in contention for the Weekly Website Award. More...

Outlandish Limited Releases

Not much in terms of limited releases this week, but that's not surprising given where we are in Awards Season. Those most interested in art house films have way too much selection when it comes to the top rated films of the year. More...
