Synopsis

Cal Chetley, a bright, undersized fifteen year-old is an outsider in the blue collar town of Sallisaw, Oklahoma known for its high school wrestling program. His older brother Mike, a one-time high school champion with whom Cal is estranged, left Cal and his mother Sharon behind years ago after the tragic car accident that killed their father. Sharon is grieving the loss of her husband while struggling with an estranged, older son and her bright, socially isolated younger one, the latter of whom is determined to put his family back together. With the encouragement of Harry "Red" Newman, a charming, albeit mysterious man who has a way of showing up in Cal's life just when he needs him most, Cal joins the high school team hoping his brother will train him. What ensues, is an emotional, uplifting journey about Cal's drive to succeed and his unwavering pursuit to reunite his family.

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for December 28st, 2010

December 27th, 2010

It's the last week of the year and despite some choices for Boxing Week sales, there's not a lot interesting on this week's list of DVD and Blu-ray releases. There are barely more than a dozen releases, and some of those I wouldn't have mentioned had it been busier. As for Pick of the Week, there's only one contender, Archer: Season One. It's a very funny, and very demented show and even though I'm not 100% happy with the extras, it is definitely worth picking up. More...

Romantics Love the Per Theater Chart

September 14th, 2010

There were just a ton of films to reach the $10,000 mark on the per theater chart over the weekend, led by The Romantics with an average of $22,764 in two theaters. However, with its reviews, it probably won't last long. Heartbreak opened in second place with an average of $17,543 in three theaters, but it will likely have better legs. Ahead of Time and My Dog Tulip were neck-and-neck with $12,790 and $12,648 respectively. Finally, Dabangg opened with more than $600,000 in 62 theaters for an average of $10,131. More...

Expecting Big Things from Limited Releases

September 10th, 2010

It's a busy week with a dozen limited releases on the list, and this includes a few opening in more than a dozen theaters. Considering how weak the Tomatometer Scores are for a lot of these films, I'm not expecting great things. Hopefully one or two will score breakout success, but odds are it will be an off week.
