DVD and Blu-ray Releases for October 28th, 2014

October 27th, 2014

It's a terrible week on the home market with no major releases. The biggest theatrical release is Begin Again, which earned excellent reviews, but opened in limited release and never expanded truly wide. The best new release on the list is the limited edition Breaking Bad: The Complete Series 2014 Barrel, but it costs more than $200, so it is out of the price range of most people. Besides those two releases, there's more filler than releases worth talking about. Begin Again wins Pick of the Week, practically by default, as it is the only release I can enthusiastically recommend. More...

The Last of Robin Hood poster

The Last of Robin Hood led the way on the Per Theater Chart with an average of $17,709 in two theaters. Through a Lens Darkly was the only other member of the $10,000 club with $11,764 in its lone theater. This is more impressive, because it opened on Wednesday. More...

Swearnet: The Movie poster

It's not a great week for limited releases as there are only two films earning overwhelmingly positive reviews: The Congress and Starred Up. Both of those films are playing on Video on Demand as well, so their box office numbers are likely going to be weaker than their Tomatometer Scores. Cantinflas does have an outside shot at tenth place, so at least there's some good news as far as limited releases are concerned. Swearnet: The Movie might turn out to be the biggest hit of the weekend north of the border, but it doesn't open in the States till next month. More...

Contest: Prize for Above or Below

August 22nd, 2014

There are two wide releases opening wide next weekend, but only As Above, So Below is opening on Friday. Because of this, it is the only real choice for the target film for this week's box office prediction contest. In order to win, one must simply predict the opening weekend box office number for As Above, So Below.

The prize this week is brought to you by the upcoming Life of Crime, which is opening in theaters and on Video on Demand on the 29th. Check out the official site for more details.

Whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), regardless if they go over or not, will win a $15 Fandango gift card. Entries must be received by 10 a.m., Pacific Time on Friday to be eligible, so don't delay! More...
