Contest - Transforming Predictions into Prizes

June 19th, 2009

What could be the biggest movie of the year opens next weekend. Actually, Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen opens before the weekend, and, thanks to Independence Day, its opening weekend is extended, but we only care about the Friday to Sunday numbers. In order to win our contest, one must simply predict the opening weekend box office of Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen. Whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going over, will win a copy of Baby on Board on Blu-ray, as well as El Dorado on DVD. Meanwhile, whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going under, will win a copy of Morning Light on DVD and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance on DVD. Remember - while the movie opens on Wednesday, we are only interested in the three-day weekend. That's Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, so take that into account when sending in your predictions. Entries must be received by 10 a.m., Pacific Time on Friday to be eligible, so don't delay! More...

DVD Releases for June 16th, 2009 - Part II

June 16th, 2009

A strangely busy week for spotlight reviews with ten of them representing nine DVDs and seven Blu-rays. It would have been a bigger list, but several are late. As for the best of the best, I'm giving an tentative DVD Pick of the Week rating to Transformers - Generation One - 25th Anniversary Edition - Season One. However, those will to wait for the retail version of Matrix of Leadership - Complete Series, or willing to spend more on the limited release will want to give this one a pass. Additionally, we have a DVD Puck of the Week, as the Canadian release, Murdoch Mysteries - Season One, is a must have for all loyal Canucks. With the number of spotlight reviews, the column had to be split into to, with the second part found here. More...

The Elephant King topped the per theater chart with $15,959, which was earned in just one theater. Second place went to Happy-Go-Lucky with an average of $11,994, which is more impressive when you take into account that it more than doubled its theater count. One last note, Frontrunners made $6,888 in one theater over the weekend, but it has made $10,011 since Wednesday. More...
