DVD and Blu-ray Releases for August 10th, 2010

August 9th, 2010

There are not a lot of prime releases on this week's list, but there are a few that I'm interested in. Date Night is the biggest release of the week and depending on how strong its home market debut is, it could be a worthy pick up, or even a contender for Pick of the Week. I won't know till the screener arrives. Crumb's Blu-ray review was also a tempting choice for Pick of the Week. As was Bugs Bunny: Hare Extraordinaire and Daffy Duck: Frustrated Fowl. But in the end I went with Max Headroom: The Complete Series as Pick of the Week. More...

Titan Stands Tall on Per Theater Chart

April 6th, 2010

Not only did Clash of the Titans top the overall box office chart, it also led the way on the per theater chart with an average of $16,213. Breaking Upwards was right behind with $15,467 in one theater. Why Did I Get Married Too? was the only other film in the $10,000 club with an average of $13,591. More...

International Details: Princess Still Powerful

March 7th, 2010

The Princess and the Frog may have slipped out of the top five internationally, but it still added $8.32 million on 3053 screens in 28 markets for a total of $143.18 million. It had no major market openings again this week, but it added $2.84 million on 689 screens over the weekend in France for a total of $27.30 million after a month of release there. This weekend the film debuted in Japan, which could help it return to the top five. Regardless, it has made enough money that it should show a profit, eventually. More...

International Details: Shutter Island is International Destination

February 28th, 2010

Shutter Island started its international run with a sixth place finish this past weekend, earning $9.28 million on 1229 screens in 9 markets. The film opened in first place in Spain with $3.25 million on 406 screens. It had to settle for second place in Australia, in a virtual tie with Valentine's Day at $2.50 million on 250 screens. It's way too early to tell where the film will end up, but matching its domestic run internationally is a solid goal. More...

Ghost Haunts the Top of the Per Theater Chart

February 24th, 2010

Showing once again that there's no such thing as bad publicity, Ghost Writer topped the per theater chart with an average of $45,752 in four theaters during its opening weekend. It will be interesting to see if it can maintain this momentum going forward. Shutter Island was the only other film in the $10,000 club, earning an average of $13,729 in nearly 3,000 theaters on its way to the number one spot on the overall chart. More...

International Top Five: Avatar's Streak Remains Alive

February 17th, 2010

There was only one holdover in the top five of the international chart this week, and it was no surprise which film it was. Avatar again led the way, this time pulling in $59.84 million on 8214 screens in 71 markets for a total of $1.69 billion internationally and $2.35 billion worldwide. It appears France overtook China as the film's biggest single market, $156.5 million to $155 million. The other most noteworthy market was South Korea, where the country added $2.85 million on 327 screens over the weekend for a total of $98.48 million, the seventh market where the film will cross the century mark. It won't be the last market where this happens. More...

My Name is King of the Per Theater Chart

February 17th, 2010

My Name is Khan beat expectations by a large margin with an average of $16,200 in 120 theaters over the three-day weekend and $18,875 million over four. The overall box office champ, Valentine's Day, placed second with an average of $15,351 over the three-day weekend. The Red Riding Trilogy held on strong with averages of $13,374 / $17,056. The re-release of Ran took in $10,128 from Friday to Sunday and $13,470 including Monday in its lone theater. More...
