Synopsis

Plastic is cheap and practical. We are children of the Plastic Age. Synthetics are able to remain in the ground and in waters for up to 500 years, and can harm our hormonal system due to their often-unknown additives. Did you know you’ve got plastic in your blood? In his investigative documentary, director Werner Boote shows that plastic has emerged as a global threat. He asks questions that concern all of us: Why don’t we change our consumption behavior? Why is the industry not reacting to apparent dangers? Who is held accountable for hills of garbage mounting in Deserts and Seas? Who wins in this game? And who loses?

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for May 10th, 2011

May 9th, 2011

While summer is the busiest time of year at the box office, it's the weakest time of year on the home market. That said, this week isn't bad with a few high profile releases. Unfortunately for me, I'm still waiting on the screeners for several of these. As far as the best of the best is concerned, there are a few contenders for Pick of the Week, including the pair of Doctor Who releases. But in the end I went with The Illusionist on Blu-ray / DVD Combo Pack. More...

Featured DVD Review: Plastic Planet

May 4th, 2011

Werner Boote's grandfather worked in the plastics industry when Werner was a child and he grew up around plastic. While most of us don't have such a direct connection to the industry, most reading this are just as surrounded by plastic. Will Plastic Planet make us wish that we were not? More...

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for April 12th, 2011

April 11th, 2011

The quality of first-run releases coming out on Tuesday is pretty low, but on this week's list we have The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, which came out last Friday, and The Deathly Hallows: Part I, which comes out this Friday. Besides those two releases, the only other potential big seller is The Incredibles on Blu-ray. I don't think that will top the sales, but it should do well on the Blu-ray sales chart and it is this week's Pick of the Week. More...

Per Theater Chart: Barney Leads the Way, In This Version Anyhow

January 18th, 2011

After an Oscar-qualifying run and a limited release in Canada, Barney's Version, finally started its theatrical run in the United States with an average of $16,310 in four theaters, which was enough to lead the per theater chart. Sort of. It's also playing in Canada, and despite the fact that Canada's considered part of the domestic box office when it comes to wide releases, smaller releases often don't have their box office numbers North of the border reported. This means it is possible that Phil Ochs: There But For Fortune remained on top with $12,377 in its lone theater. More...

Getting to the Heart of Limited Releases

January 14th, 2011

There's a wide selection of limited releases this week, including one that was previously thought to have a chance at opening wide. Unfortunately, as is usually the case at this time of year, there are not many quality releases and the best bet for mainstream success is Barney's Version, which previously had an Oscar-qualifying run. More...
