Synopsis

A great war is on the verge when the port city of Langkasuka, ruled by Princess Raja Hijau, is the target of attack by brutal pirates led by Prince Ravai and his right-hand man, “Black Raven,” a powerful magician. Even though Princess Hijau is protected by the great warrior Yarang and her ally Prince Pahang’s massive army, she can only temporarily hold off the mighty force of the pirate alliance. Only the great cannon at the bottom of the ocean can lead to decisive victory for either side. The only way to bring the cannon from the bottom of the sea is through “Du-lum,” a magical power fishermen use to control sea creatures and to make it rain. One student, Pari, has the ability of “Du-lum.” Who will capture the student with such power, the princess or the pirate? Once the cannon is retrieved, the greatest sea battle will rage on!

Featured Blu-ray / DVD Review: Legend of the Tsunami Warrior

May 10th, 2010

Legend of the Tsunami Warrior, a.k.a. Queens of Langkasuka, a.k.a. Puen yai jom salad, is a fantasy pirate movie from Thailand, which at least makes it a bit unique. The film cost 140 million baht to make, which works out to about $4.34 million American using today's exchange rate. While that is tiny for a Hollywood film, it is huge for a Thai film, as earning 140 million baht at the box office is considered a blockbuster. Will the historical epic appeal to audiences here, or will something be lost in translation? More...
