Home Market Releases for September 27th, 2016

September 27th, 2016

Captain America: Civil War

It is a pretty good week on the home market with a few releases worth picking up. The biggest of these is Central Intelligence, but while it is worth picking up, it isn’t a contender for Pick of the Week. There are some smaller releases that were up for that title, including The Shallows, An American Werewolf in London and The Innocents. However, in the end, I went with Captain America: Civil War. The Blu-ray screener arrived late, and I held off on naming it Pick of the Week when it came out for that very reason. More...

The Iron Giant

It is a big week with a ton of home market releases, including several that were contenders for Pick of the Week. There were two limited releases in that group, Love and Friendship and Tale of Tales. Love and Friendship got better reviews, but Tale of TalesBlu-ray is more interesting in my mind. Star Trek 50th Anniversary TV and Movie Collection is a great Blu-ray box set and would make an amazing gift. As for the Pick of the Week, that was an easy choice: The Iron Giant: Signature Edition on Blu-ray. Although if you are a hardcore fan, then the Ultimate Collector’s Edition might be worth the $75. Theater Averages: Don’t Think Twice hits First Place on Yearly Chart with an Average of $92,835

July 27th, 2016

Don’t Think Twice

Café Society's record lasted just one week as Don’t Think Twice earned $92,835 in its lone theater. I expect it to expand rapidly over the coming weeks. Café Society fell to second place with $16,999, but it did expand to 50 theaters, so this is still impressive. The number one film of the weekend, Star Trek Beyond, earned an average of $15,085. The only other film in the $10,000 club was Train to Busan with an average of $10,547 in 28 theaters. However, Kabali came close with $8,380 in 236 over the three-day weekend and $16,539 including Thursday. More...

Limited and VOD Releases: There are Some Fabulous Movies to Watch This Week

July 22nd, 2016

Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie

It’s a short week for limited releases with just ten films on this week’s list, and that includes a few secondary VOD releases. The biggest release is Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie, but it’s not earning the best reviews on this week’s list. Don’t Think Twice could do well enough on the theater average chart that it expands significantly. However, it might be the only film on this week’s list that manages that feat. More...
