DVD Releases for May 27, 2008

May 27th, 2008

There's a small section of big-name first run releases this week, but that doesn't mean there's little to buy. In fact, there are several DVDs that were contenders for DVD Pick of the week including some TV on DVD releases (Absolutely Fabulous - Absolutely Everything - Buy from Amazon and Degrassi The Next Generation - Season 6 - Buy from Amazon), classic cinema (The Thief of Bagdad - Criterion Collection - Buy from Amazon), foreign cinema (Come Drink With Me - Buy from Amazon and Heroes of the East - Buy from Amazon), as well as a collection of short films (The H.P. Lovecraft Collection - Volume 1 - Cool Air, Volume 2 - Dreams of Cthulhu, Volume 3 - Out of Mind, and Volume 4 - Pickman's Model). It would be nearly impossible to name just one of these releases as the DVD Pick of the Week, but The Thief of Bagdad - Criterion Collection - Buy from Amazon would likely please the most people. Per Theater Chart Hopping Over Easter Weekend

March 25th, 2008

There was not one, not two, not three, but six films that landed in the $10,000 club on the per theater chart over the weekend (not counting the three IMAX films that did the same). Topping the charts was the re-release of Contempt, again, which earned $13,946 in one theater, which was down less than 6% from last weekend. Planet B-Boy opened in second place with $13,889, missing first place on the per theater chart by a microscopic $57. Boarding Gate had a bit of separation between the rest of the films earning $11,440 in its one theater. On the other hand, Under the Same Moon, Love Songs, and Meet the Browns were all within a few hundred dollars of each other with per theater averages of $10,414, $10,244, and $10,011. More...

Hammering Home Limited Releases

March 21st, 2008

Nine films on this week's list, including The Hammer, which was on last week's list as well. (Hopefully it is really coming out this week, or it might be on next week's list as well.) Most films are only earning average reviews, so it will be interesting to see which ones can fight through that, if any. More...
