DVD Releases for June 17, 2008

June 16th, 2008

Another busy week, but one that feels loaded with quantity and low on quality. None of the first run releases stand out and there's precious little else to make up. That's not to say there are no DVDs worth buying, as there are. My recommended list includes Burn Notice - Season One - Buy from Amazon, Classe Tous Risques - Criterion Collection - Buy from Amazon, Popeye the Sailor - 1938-1940 - Volume 2 - Buy from Amazon, and Men in Black - Special Edition - Blu-ray - Buy from Amazon, to name more than a few. However, none struck me as qualifiers for DVD Pick of the Week. More...

Reprise Wears the Crown of the Per Theater Chart

May 20th, 2008

Reprise earned nearly $50,000 in three theaters over the weekend for a per theater average of $16,353, which was enough to top the charts. The only other film to reach the $10,000 mark was Prince Caspian, which earned a disappointing average of $14,007. More...

3D Does it on Per Theater Chart

February 5th, 2008

Only two films topped $10,000 on the Per Theater Chart, and both of them were 3D concert releases. Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour led the way with a record-setting average of $45,561, which is the most earned by any film playing in more than 100 theaters. U2 3D also topped $10,000 with $11,720, which was down just over 25% and that bodes well for its expansion next week. More...

Movie Website Reviews for Weekend of February 1, 2008

February 2nd, 2008

Like most weeks this year, I was not wowed by any of the sites for this week's releases. Most could not rise above effective or average. Hopefully this trend will change soon as we get out of the early year doldrums. More...

Limited Releases are Sweet this Week

February 1st, 2008

A soft week for limited releases with only one film, Caramel, that seems likely to score with moviegoers. And even that film has an uphill battle. More...
