DVD Releases for October 21, 2008 - Part II

October 21st, 2008

The number of DVDs reaching my door is increasing each week (so are the number of ones that are late, or so it would seem). However, while there was a wide selection, the choice for DVD Pick of the Week was easy: Looney Tunes - Golden Collections - Volume 6. ... And James Bond - Blu-ray Uber Collection, as well as Casino Royale on Blu-ray. One last note, as has happened more often than not, this week's list is split into two. The first part can be seen here. DVD Rentals - What Happened to the New Releases?

September 14th, 2008

New releases were not a major factor on the rental charts this week and that helped What Happens in Vegas... to remain in top spot. More...

DVD Releases for September 2, 2008

September 1st, 2008

In one respect, this is one of the slowest weeks for DVD releases in a long time with not a single first run release coming out on DVD. Not one. That said, there are a number of limited releases and other smaller movies coming out this week. There's also a huge number of TV on DVD releases coming out (including a TV movie that is right below). On the top of the this week's releases there are two DVDs worthy of contention for DVD Pick of the Week. If you don't have The Transformers in High Definition yet, grab the Blu-ray release. If you haven't upgraded to High Definition yet, Supernatural - The Complete Third Season is your best bet. More...

Genghis Khan Encounters Little Resistance on the Per Theater Chart

June 17th, 2008

Mongol repeated atop the Per Theater Chart with an average of $22,442 in five theaters, which was 17% lower than its opening. Now the next big test is how well it can expand. The second best release of the week was Encounters at the End of the World as the documentary earned $17,730 in its lone theater. Even more impressive is the fact that the film was a Wednesday release that earned nearly $26,000 in total -- had it opened on Friday it might has topped the charts. The overall number one film, The Incredible Hulk debuted in third place on the per theater chart with $15,810. Next up was The Grocer's Son, which grew more than 30% to $13,789 in one theater. The final film to earn $10,000 or more during its run was The Happening, which surprised analysts with an average of $10,220 in just under 3,000 theaters.

It's War Out There on the Per Theater Chart

May 28th, 2008

The $10,000 club was a little more crowded than expected with a few surprise entries, but there was no surprise on top. Not only did Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull top the overall box office chart, it also came in first place on the per theater average chart with $23,507 over the three-day weekend, and nearly $30,000 over four. The Edge of Heaven opened with $18,593 in one theater, which is made even more impressive since it opened on a Wednesday. War, Inc. opened to weak reviews, but managed a surprisingly strong per theater average of $17,668. The final film in the $10,000 club was A Jihad for Love with $10,519 over three days and $17,284 including its box office over Wednesday and Thursday. More...

Reprise Wears the Crown of the Per Theater Chart

May 20th, 2008

Reprise earned nearly $50,000 in three theaters over the weekend for a per theater average of $16,353, which was enough to top the charts. The only other film to reach the $10,000 mark was Prince Caspian, which earned a disappointing average of $14,007. More...

Yangtze is not Up the Creek on the Per Theater Chart

April 29th, 2008

The Canadian documentary, Up the Yangtze, led the way on the per theater chart this week scoring $15,851 in its lone theater. Holly was just a tiny percent behind with $15,687, also in one theater. The final resident of the $10,000 club was Roman de Gare, which earned an average of $12,742 in two theaters. More...

Movie Website Reviews for Weekend of April 25, 2008

April 26th, 2008

The curse of the Unrated website reared its ugly head this week leaving only Baby Mama - Official Site in contention for the weekly website award. That site did have all of the usual features, plenty of clips, interactive features, and more. More...

Without Limited Releases

April 25th, 2008

Only eight limited releases this week, none of which seem destined for mainstream success. Despeite earning merely average reviews, Then She Found Me might have the best chance at expanding thanks to its director. But even so, it will likely have to wait until the home market to find an audience. More...
