Synopsis

Amin Jaafari is an Israeli-Palestinian surgeon who has fully assimilated into Tel-Aviv society. His picture-perfect life is turned upside down when police inform him that not only was his wife Sihem killed in a terrorist bombing but that she was the suicide bomber. Amin immediately rejects their accusation, but his conviction is shaken when he receives a posthumous letter from Sihem confirming her role in the carnage. Shattered by the startling revelation, Amin abandons the security of his adopted homeland and enters the Palestinian territories in pursuit of the zealots who recruited her.

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for November 12th, 2013

November 11th, 2013

There are a number of good releases this week. The two biggest releases are Man of Steel and Turbo. While the former has a larger target audience, the latter is the better film. It is still not Pick of the Week material. The best films are some of the smaller releases, like The Attack, Barbara, Blackfish, City Lights, and Prince Avalanche. All of those are worth picking up, but I think Nosferatu on Blu-ray is the Pick of the Week. More...

Per Theater Chart: Blue Cheers Up the Box Office

August 1st, 2013

Blue Jasmine earned top spot on the per theater chart, not just for the week, but for the year. Its per theater average was $102,011 in six theaters, topping the previous yearly best by Spring Breakers. Spring-Breakers finished its theatrical run with just over $14 million, which is a figure Blue Jasmine should top. The Act of Killing remained potent in second place with an average of $13,890 in three theaters. The overall box office leader, The Wolverine, was the final film in the $10,000 club with an average of $13,536. More...

Per Theater Chart: Wide Releases Scare Away the Competition

June 25th, 2013

You can tell it's summertime, because the two wide releases topped the per theater chart this weekend. Monsters University earned first place on both the overall chart and the per theater average chart with an average of $20,587. World War Z placed second with $18,412. Unfinished Song earned an average of $12,864 in two theaters. The only holdover in the $10,000 club was 20 Feet from Stardom, which earned an average of $10,744 in six theaters. More...

Limited Release: Ready to Attack

June 21st, 2013

There is a relatively short list of limited releases this week, but there are a few that are worth keeping an eye on. A Hijacking and The Attack. Both films are earning stunning reviews, but both are foreign language films, so that will hurt their chances to expand significantly, but maybe they will have strong starts in limited release.
