Beam Me Up...

Warning: This review reveals minor details about the movie's plot

This was perfectly acceptable Saturday afternoon bargain matinee fare. I was entertained and there was even a bit of suspense here and there. But really, it was just another silly space movie, with some well-done special effects and some that bordered on being cartoon figures. Kind of a Star Trek meets Scooby Doo or something. I loved how the computer wrist gadgets would always say the right phrase for the crew's questions... like "it's almost too late!"... should have said "abandon movie now"!

There were some cheap shots, like killing off a hero we had gotten fond of, and the trailers had spoiled most of the movie by showing us just about everything of interest that would happen in the movie. I waited a long time for this movie to open, thinking it was gonna be really special. Oh well! But I've sure wasted more money on worse movies than this! Rent it when you have some really good popcorn and feel like you can stand something a little on the corny and predictable side.

Pros: pretty good cast, some realistic effects
Cons: ruined by the trailers

Bang for the Buck: Wait for it on video
Movie Mood: Action Movie
Overall rating: 2
