DVD Releases for May 6, 2008

May 6th, 2008

A slow week for top-of-the-line releases and there are no first-run, wide releases that look even remotely interesting enough to buy. There are a few limited releases and older releases to fill the gap. It was also a slow week for spotlight reviews, but that gave me a chance to completely catch up to all the screeners that arrived late. ... That is until the next batch of late arrivals show up. As for the best of the best, Before the Devil Knows You're Dead - Buy from Amazon is high on that list, except technically it was released a couple of weeks ago. Teeth - Buy from Amazon also impressed, but the extras are a little too light. For the DVD Pick of the Week, I'm going with The Passion of Greg the Bunny: Best of the Film Parodies - Volume 2. Once is Number One on Per Theater Chart

May 22nd, 2007

Once won a close race for top spot on the per theater chart, just topping Shrek the Third $30,951 to $29,507. Brand Upon the Brain! held up better than expected, earning an average of $18,907 in its three theaters while Chalk was the only other film to top $10,000 with $13,363. More...

Movie Website Updates for May 13 - May 19, 2007

May 19th, 2007

Either it was a really slow week or my Google-Fu is way off, because there's a short list this week. Not only were there very few new / updated sites, but there was nothing that jumped out as award winners. I was tempted to give the award to The Transformers - Official Site just for the new trailer, but I already geeked-out over that site when the first trailer came out. In the end there just wasn't a site worthy of the award this week. More...

Will Severance Rule the Limited Releases?

May 18th, 2007

It's a bad week for limited releases with only a couple managing to earn overwhelmingly positive reviews, and none of the wider releases earning even moderately positive reviews. Of the films on this week's list, the one I'm cheering for the most is Severance, but its chances are mixed. More...

Movie Review - Hollywood Dreams

May 13th, 2007

Written and directed by Henry Jaglom, Hollywood Dreams tells the story of Margie Chizek, played by Tanna Frederick, a woman who just arrived in Hollywood from a small town in Iowa with dreams of making it big. After getting thrown out of the apartment she was staying in, Margie stumbles into opportunity and is invited to stay at the guest home of two movie producers who offer to help her career. There she meets an up-and-coming actor, played by Justin Kirk. More...

Movie Website Updates for April 22 - April 28, 2007

April 29th, 2007

It's a slow week in terms of the cream-of-the-crop sites. There are a few that look like they could be award-worthy once they have a few more updates, but for the most part this week we have a collection that is rather average. There was one stand-out site, Evan Almighty - Official Site, and it was the only choice for the Weekly Website Award. More...
