2008 - Holiday Gift Guide - Part III

December 19th, 2008

This week on our annual Holiday Gift Guide we look at limited releases and foreign imports, including a bit of Canadian content. This list was supposed to be online on Wednesday, but it is winter and I live in Canada, and a storm came by and took out the power. I don't know how long it lasted, because as soon as I powered down my computer (battery back-up rocks) I went to bed. I figure if I can't check my e-mail, there's no point in being conscious. Hopefully part four will be online on Sunday. Although there is another storm heading in for that day as well. More...

DVD Releases for July 8, 2008

July 7th, 2008

Another week without a first-run release that deserves serious consideration for the DVD Pick of the Week award. This means we are left looking at special editions, limited releases, and TV on DVD sets for the best of the week. Sadly there are not a lot of contenders here either. Batman Begins on Blu-ray Standard Edition or Limited Edition is certainly worth picking up, but it is mostly just a port of the HD DVD release and I was hoping for more (like having the extras in High Definition). The Monk / Psych two-pack offers two great shows for a reasonable price, but I'm not sure it's award-worthy. The best this week has to offer is Stargate Atlantis - Season Four - Buy from Amazon, and it is this week's DVD Pick of the Week. More...

Iron Man the Wise Choice to Top Per Theater Chart

May 13th, 2008

Not only did Iron Man remain on top of the weekend box office chart, it also topped the per theater chart with an average of $12,452. The only other film to top $10,000 was Surfwise, which did it with $10,304 in one theater. More...

Movie Website Reviews for Weekend of May 9, 2008

May 10th, 2008

Big week for movie releases, which means a big week for websites. However, what this week's list has in quantity, we lose in quality. None have what it takes to become the Weekly Website Winner, and while Speed Racer - Official Site comes the closest, it fails on medical grounds. More...

Limited Releases Try to Pick Up the Pieces (or Should that be Fragments?)

May 9th, 2008

Last week Iron Man scared away nearly all competition. This week is entirely different with more than a dozen films, including a few opening up here in Canada. However, while there's a wide selection, none seem destined to expand wide. In fact, there are more that feel like they should have gone direct-to-DVD than there are that feel like they have a 50% shot at significant expansion. More...

Movie Website Reviews for Weekend of November 2, 2007

November 3rd, 2007

Very Limited Releases

November 2nd, 2007

No a big list for limited releases, and its downright tiny without the trio of a Canadian films. Not only that, but none of the films opening in more than a handful of theaters with Surviving My Mother being the widest release at just four theaters. More...
