Synopsis

Deciding which college to attend can be the most exciting and thrilling time of a young woman's life...unless your formidable, overprotective father isn't quite ready to let you go. In the Disney family comedy COLLEGE ROAD TRIP, Melanie is eagerly looking forward to taking her first big step towards independence when she plans a "Girls only" road trip to check out prospective universities. However, when her imposing police-chief dad insists on escorting her instead, she soon finds her dream trip turning into a hilarious, nightmare adventure full of comical misfortune and turmoil. Dad wants to assure total security and safety for his precious daughter, while Melanie has a 17-year-old's need to become a grown woman and have her own sense of independence. Now, even as dad and daughter bicker, banter and careen from one funny disaster to the next on their journey, they are about to discover that, sometimes, going that extra mile to be together can forge a family bond so strong it can withstand anything - even wild curves ahead.

2008 is in danger of slipping below 2007's pace this weekend, at least when it comes to ticket sales.

DVD Sales - 21 Hits the Jackpot

August 5th, 2008

Almost no new releases were able to reach the top 30 on the sales chart this week, but we did have a new number one as 21 led the way with $11.20 million in sales from 585,000 units. More...

DVD Rentals - 21 Doubles Down

August 5th, 2008

Like it was on the sales chart, there were few new releases to reach the top 30 on the rental chart this week. And again, things were led by 21. However, The Bank Job was relatively close behind during its second week of release. More...

DVD Sales - Step Up 2 The Top

July 31st, 2008

Five of the top six films on this week's sales chart were new releases, including the overall number on film, Step Up 2 The Streets. That film sold 604,000 units for opening week sales of $10.50 million. More...

DVD Rentals - And You Can Take That to the Bank (Job)

July 31st, 2008

There were a boatload of were new releases on the rental charts this week, including the new number one renter, The Bank Job, which generated nearly 50% more revenue than its nearest competitor. More...

DVD Releases for July 15, 2008 - Part I

July 14th, 2008

Another week without a first run release that is in contention for the DVD Pick of the Week. Granted, The Bank Job is worth picking up, but neither the two DVDs nor the Blu-ray have enough extras to be the DVD Pick of the Week. To find the best of this week's selection you have to look at the TV on DVD list and grab Eureka Season Two. Paradoxically, while the quality is low, the quantity is high, so much so that I had to split the list into two parts. Part two can be found here. More...

Who Helps End Slump

March 18th, 2008

The slump is over after four weeks. During the weekend, the overall box office was $121 million, which was 12% more than last weekend and 3% more than the same weekend last year. Paradoxically, 2008 slipped behind 2007's pace when it comes to ticket sales, albeit by less than 1%. More...

Who Will Win at the Box Office

March 14th, 2008

2008 is in danger of slipping below 2007's pace this weekend, at least when it comes to ticket sales. Fortunately, this time last year, the three new releases were rather weak while this year, Horton Hears a Who is tracking to become the biggest opening of the year so far. Even so, it will be tough for 2008 to keep pace with 2007. More...

Spartans Spank Cavemen

March 11th, 2008

10,000 B.C. may have won the weekend with ease, but it wasn't able to come close to 300. Even if it had, the overall weekend would have still been behind last year's pace. Overall this weekend, movies brought in $107 million, which was 10% more than last weekend. However, it was a massive 30% lower than the same weekend last year. 2008 still has an advantage over 2007 at $1.67 billion to $1.61 billion, but ticket sales are now nearly identical. More...

Movie Website Reviews for Weekend of March 7, 2008

March 8th, 2008

After a slump in site that had much the in way of style, we have two sites that were in contention for the Weekly Website Award. While College Road Trip - Official Site - came close, it was CJ7 - Official Site - that took home the award. More...

Tens of Millions on its Way to 10,000 B.C.

March 7th, 2008

February ended on a disappointing note, and there are signs March could start off the same way. This time last year, 300 opened with an outstanding $70.89 million, a feat no film is likely to match this month. In fact, it is very, very unlikely that the three wide releases this week will earn that much combined. More...

2008 Preview: March

March 1st, 2008

2008 stumbled last month and there doesn't seem to be many potential blockbusters this month. By the end of March last year, there were three films releases that would reach $100 million, including one that reached $200 million, and two others that missed that milestone by less than $5 million. This year, we could enter April without a single $100 million movie. More...
