Contest: Why Be Normal?

October 15th, 2010

Paranormal Activity 2, the sequel to the most profitable movie of all time, based on a percentage of production budget, opens next week. It will likely be the number one movie at the box office, and it is definitely the target film in this week's box office prediction contest. In order to win, one must simply predict the opening weekend box office number for Paranormal Activity 2. Whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going over, will win a copy of My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done? on DVD. Meanwhile, whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going under, will also win a copy of My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done? on DVD. Finally, a third person will be chosen from all eligible entries and that person will win the final copy of My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done? on DVD. Entries must be received by 10 a.m., Pacific Time on Friday, October 22 to be eligible, so don't delay! More...

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for October 12th, 2010

October 11th, 2010

A strange week for the DVD and Blu-ray Release Report, as there are only five featured reviews for releases coming out this week. However, there are also eight featured reviews for releases that arrived late, plus another eight or so that came out this week where the screener is late. (There's a couple where I don't know if they will or will not arrive.) The Pick of the Week is one such release, How to Train Your Dragon on Blu-ray / DVD Combo, but be warned, that movie isn't released to the home market till Friday. More...

Featured TV on DVD Review: My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done?

October 7th, 2010

My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done? was directed by Werner Herzog and produced by David Lynch, among others. You know this wasn't going to be a mainstream film. This could explain why it was pushed back from 2009 before being released direct-to-DVD. Or the explanation could be simpler. It could just be a bad movie. I choose to remain optimistic. More...

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for September 14th, 2010

September 13th, 2010

TV on DVD season continues, which is great news for fans who want to relive last season, or missed many episodes of their favorite shows. It's bad news for these people's wallets, as they are quite expensive compared to first run releases. (Although TV on DVD releases tend to be inexpensive entertainment on a per-minute basis.) It's worse news for critics, as trying to review several full season releases in one week is tough to pull off. That's not to say there were no first run releases, but the ones that did come out were second-tier, or lower, leaving them out of competition for Pick of the Week. I'm going with The Big Bang Theory: Season Three for Pick of the Week, with both DVD and Blu-ray worth picking up, but the High Definition release is arguably the better deal. More...
