DVD Sales: February 10th, 2013: Flight Takes Flight

April 2, 2013

There were five new releases to reach the top six on the February 10th edition of the DVD sales chart. This includes Flight with 585,000 units / $8.76 million during its first week of release. Tyler Perry's Madea Gets a Job: The Play was in a close second place with 575,000 units / $7.18 million. This is excellent for a direct-to-DVD release. Hotel Transylvania fell to third place with 501,000 units / $10.02 million for the week for totals of 1.59 million units / $29.54 million after two. It is currently in second place for 2013 and could climb into first place soon. Alex Cross only managed fourth place with 441,000 units / $6.55 million. It was a disappointment during its theatrical release, and its home market debut was equally disappointing. Rounding out the top five was Here Comes the Boom with 318,000 units / $5.40 million during its first week of release. I was expecting better than this.

Monster High Double Feature just missed the top five with 194,000 / $2.69 million for the week. This is excellent for a direct-to-DVD kids release. Deadfall opened in 26th place with 25,000 / $376,000 during its opening week. This is great for a limited release, most of which never chart.
