International Box Office: Retaliation Gets Revenge

April 25, 2013

After getting pushed back into third place last weekend, G.I. Joe: Retaliation returned to first place this weekend with $40.0 million on 13,616 screens in 62 markets for totals of $211.7 million internationally and $322.9 million worldwide. Of its weekend haul, $33.14 million was earned in China. That's really close to what it earned during its domestic opening weekend. Granted, it did open on a Thursday and that likely diluted its weekend number, while the Chinese results are for the full week, but this is still an impressive result.

Oblivion fell to second place with $32.8 million on 7,744 screens in 60 markets for a two-week international total of $111.24 million. The film's biggest weekend was in Russia where it added $3.70 million on 881 screens over the weekend to its running tally, which now sits at $15.17 million.

The Croods slipped a spot to third with $17.94 million on 9,714 screens in 67 markets for a total of $268.88 million internationally and $423.51 million worldwide. It opened in third place in China with $6.22 million for its first full week.

A Wedding Invitation remained in second place in China while it climbed to fourth place internationally with $13.23 million over the weekend for a total of $23.16 million after two.

Olympus Has Fallen returned to the top ten with $10.04 million on 2,823 screens in 31 markets for a relatively early total of $32.05 million. Given the film's American focus, it was unlikely to match its domestic numbers internationally, but this is a result so far. It opened in first place in the U.K. with $3.42 million on 453 screens. On the other hand, it had to settle for second place behind Scary Movie 5 in Italy with $1.67 million on 336 screens. Meanwhile, it only managed fourth place in Mexico with a hair under $1.00 million on 771 screens.

Legend No. 17 opened in first place in Russia and sixth place internationally with $7.95 million on 1,400 screens.

Detective Conan: Private Eye In The Distant Sea opened in first place in Japan and seventh place internationally with $6.73 million on 344 screens.

Les Profs debuted in eighth place with $6.21 million on 543 screens. Of that, $6.09 million from from 529 screens in France, while the rest came from Switzerland.

Seeking Mr. Right fell to ninth place with $5.25 million in 2 markets lifting its running tally to $80.80 million after five weeks of release. Nearly all of which has come from China.

Scary Movie 5 earned tenth place with $4.72 million on 1,541 screens in 18 markets for an early total of $9.70 million. This includes a first place, $1.96 million opening on 415 screens in Italy.
