Blu-ray Sales: April 7th, 2013: Bible Blues

May 23, 2013

There were a couple of new releases to chart on the April 7th, 2013 edition of the Blu-ray sales chart. This includes The Bible: The Epic Miniseries, which earned first place with 172,000 units / $6.31 million. Its opening week Blu-ray share was 28%, which is low for the format as a whole, but better than expected, given its genre and target audience. Lincoln was pushed into second place with 132,000 units / $3.94 million for the week for totals of 628,000 units / $18.18 million after two. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey was in third place during its third weekend of release with 128,000 units / $3.11 million. So far the film has sold 1.84 million units and generated $42.73 million in total sales. Les Miserables slipped to fourth place with 86,000 units / $2.05 million over the week for totals of 929,000 units / $22.30 million after three. Wreck-it Ralph earned fifth place with 46,000 units / $1.55 million over the week. After just over a month of release, the film has sold 1.49 million units and generated $46.60 million in total sales.

The only other new release to chart was The Avengers Megaset, Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One. It only sold 26,000 units, which was enough for 11th place. However, it generated $3.74 million in revenue, which was enough for third place. This is great for a release that was 100% double-dips for recent releases.
