The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug opened in first place on the international chart with $135.4 million on 16,405 screens in 49 markets. This includes a trio of markets where it topped $10 million. Germany led the way with $19.00 million on 874 screens, compared to $15.01 million earned by the previous film. The U.K. contributed $15.20 million on 580 screens, but that wasn't as strong as the $18.77 million earned by the first installment. France was third with $13.38 million on 909 screens, up from $11.12 million. It also placed first in a number of other major markets with Spain bringing in $7.05 million on 859 screens. It earned $6.24 million on 809 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $7.25 million. Mexico was up next with $5.07 million on 2,615 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $5.96 million. Italy and Brazil earned nearly identical results with $4.97 million on 720 screens and $4.86 million on 1,039 respectively.

Frozen remained in second place with $31.5 million over the weekend for a total of $101.6 million after three weeks of release. The film opened in first place in Russia with $10.16 million on 1,472 screens. The film slipped into second place in both the U.K. ($6.87 million on 515 screens for a total of $16.81 million after two) and in France ($6.31 million on 730 screens for a total of $16.30 million after two).

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire fell to third place with $20.9 million in 83 markets for totals of $374.0 million internationally and $731.5 million worldwide after a month of release. By this time next week, the film should be passed $750 million worldwide, while it has yet to open in Japan.

Fung bou, a.k.a. Firestorm, placed fourth with $15 million in 3 markets over the weekend for a total of $42 million after two, but like with most Chinese films, that's all the details we have.

Gravity remained in fifth place with $8.7 million in 40 markets for totals of $390.1 million internationally and $642.0 million worldwide. It's starting to shed theaters as well as screens, but it should still reach $400 million internationally very quickly.

Lupin Sansei VS Meitentei Conan remained in first place in Japan on 329 screens over the weekend for a two-week total of $14.01 million.

No Man's Land slipped to seventh place with $4.5 million in over the weekend for a total of $29.5 million in its native China.

About Time returned to the top ten in eighth place with $4.3 million on 569 screens in 27 markets for a total of $54.5 million.

Way Back Home opened in second place in South Korea and sixth place with $4.24 million on 740 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $5.54 million.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 rounded out the top ten with $3.94 million on 1,993 screens in 29 markets for totals of $108.06 million internationally and $223.47 million worldwide. It rose a tiny amount in Australia adding $1.50 million on 465 screens over the weekend for a total of $4.02 million after two.
