DVD Sales: Twilight Sets

February 28, 2012

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1 remained on top of the DVD sales chart, although it fell to 1.45 million units / $26.03 million for the week giving it a total of 3.80 million units / $68.77 million after two. By comparison, Eclipse actually grew during its first full week of release and had sold 5.38 million units at this point in its run. The Help rocketed into second place with 322,000 units / $3.75 million over the week for a total of 4.26 million units / $71.49 million after two and a half months. Real Steel also rose in the ranks reaching third place with 136,000 units / $1.78 million for the week and 1.12 million units / $19.88 million after a month. Rise of the Planet of the Apes rose into fourth place with 120,000 units / $2.12 million for the week and 2.08 million / $36.97 million after ten. Rounding out the top five was The Smurfs with 112,000 units / $1.95 million for the week and 2.01 million units / $34.59 million after nearly three months of release.

The only truly new release to chart was The Rum Diary at 69,000 units / $1.17 million, which was only enough for 14th place. This is disappointing, even compared to its weak theatrical run.
