Per Theater Chart is Explosive

February 1, 2011

There's was only one film able to top $10,000 on the per theater chart and that film was Kaboom, which made $13,714 in one theater.

The rest of the new limited releases that we have numbers for were all playing in more theaters than average for a limited release. For instance, Biutiful was playing in 59 theaters, but still managed an average of $7,745. From Prada to Nada was playing in more than 250 theaters, so its average of $4,358 is quite impressive. On the other hand, Ip Man: Legend of the Grand Master only managed an average of $3,053 while playing in 20 theaters.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Charts alumni:

  • The Heart Specialist just crossed the $1 million mark, but that's as far as it will go.
  • Another Year also topped $1 million, but it has a better shot at $2 million.
  • From Prada to Nada opened with more than $1 million, while its per theater average suggests it will be sticking around in its theaters long enough to reach $2 million and maybe more.
  • The Company Men hit $1 million as well and it is already more than halfway to $2 million.
  • The Way Back made it to $2 million, but with its per theater average, $3 million will be very difficult to reach.
  • Barney's Version also made it to $2 million, if you include its run in Canada and it should have little trouble getting to $3 million.
  • Blue Valentine reached $5 million faster than expected and with its Oscar nomination, $10 million is not out of the question.
  • The King's Speech reached $70 million over the weekend, and it is now just ahead of The Bounty Hunter and just below Dinner for Schmucks. Getting to $100 million is quite likely at this point.
  • Black Swan just made it to $90 million over the weekend, while it is now ahead of Red and just behind The Town. It too should have little trouble reaching $100 million.
