Numbers Readers Correctly Predict 20 Out of 24 Oscars

March 5th, 2011

The Numbers Predict the Academy Awards contest produced another remarkably accurate set of predictions for the Oscar winners in 2011. For the 11th time out of 14 attempts, readers correctly predicted the Best Picture winner, and the Best Animated Feature winner was correctly predicted for the ninth time in the ten years that category has been in existence.

Once more, all the acting categories were won by actors and actresses who scored the most votes in our contest. The only major result that could be considered even slightly surprising was Tom Hooper's win as Best Director, although he was hardly considered a rank outsider, garnering over 25% of the vote. Also earning over 25% of the vote, while not being the number one pick were Haeven's win for Best Foreign Language feature and Inception's slightly surprising win for Achievement in Cinematography. The only other winner not predicted by Numbers readers was The Lost Thing, which pulled off the rare feat of defeating Pixar in the Animated Short category.

Once more, thank you to the many hundreds of readers who entered the contest and made predictions. Your collective knowledge makes our predictions incredibly accurate every year.
