Doc Tops Per Theater Chart

August 24, 2010

The Tillman Story led the way on the Per Theater Chart with an average of $13,046 in four theaters. Given its reviews, it could last a long time in theaters. Soul Kitchen was the only other film to reach the $10,000 mark with an average of $10,458 in two theaters.

The best of the rest of the new limited releases was A Film Unfinished, which opened with a strong average of $8,515 in four theaters. Mao's Last Dancer earned nearly $200,000 during its opening while playing in 33 theaters for an average of $6,050. What If... barely avoiding missing the Mendoza Line with an average of $2,164, while Altiplano was not as lucky with $1,269.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Restrepo made it to $1 million after nearly two months of release. That's not bad for a documentary, but that's as far as it will go.
  • On the other hand, Get Low got to $1 million during its third weekend of release, and it is already more than halfway to $2 million.
  • Winter's Bone reached $5 million early in the weekend, which is a great run for a limited release, but that's as far as it will get.
