DVD Rentals - Mummy not Mamma Leads the Way

January 1st, 2009

There were five new releases to chart this week, including The Mummy - Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, which topped the charts just ahead of last week's winner, The Dark Knight. Mamma Mia! opened in third place despite being number one on the sales chart, which suggests the Fangirl Effect is in play here. Step Brothers and Wanted were virtually tied for fourth place, while Traitor just missed the top five.

The House Bunny placed 9th with about half as much revenue as the number one film, but it came out three days later, so it was working on half as much time. The final new release to chart was The Women in 16th place, but it too was a December 19th release.
