Movie Website Reviews for Weekend of May 2, 2008

May 3, 2008

Iron Man kicks off the summer blockbuster season this weekend, and since it scared award most of the competition at the box office, there's little competition when it comes to movie websites. Its Official Site was the only one really in contention for the Weekly Website Award and it was the easy winner.

The Cry - Official Site
Just a synopsis and the trailer, as well as a link to the studio site.

Fugitive Pieces - Official Site
The site starts with a re-direct to the studio site, which only have the bare essentials. Additionally, it feels even smaller than it actually is.

Iron Man - Official Site
The biggest release of the week, and the best site of the week. All the usual features are here (synopsis, cast & crew bios, image gallery, trailer), as well as 360 degree views of the three versions of the Iron Man suit. However, the main feature of the site is the Experience, which has several sections (one for the four main characters and another for the company, Stark Enterprises). Each comes with images, audio clips, video clips, and more. Finally, there's a section for fan art. The only thing missing from the site is a game or two. However, while that would have been cool, what we have here is more than enough to win the ferrous Weekly Website Award.

Made of Honor - Official Site
One of the better sites this week, it has the usual features, as well as a personality quiz, and enough style to elevate the film above the crowd. However, while it works, the site is not a contender for this week's award.

Mister Lonely - No Official Site
There's no site for the North American release, but there is one for its past release in the U.K. That site as all of the usual features, but nothing that makes it stand out.

Red Belt - Official Site
All of the usual features are here, as well as some character bios, but there's little animation and no sound (outside of the trailer), which hurts the effectiveness of the site. On a side note, the second trailer is far more effective than the first, but neither sells the film as well as they should.

Son of Rambow: A Home Movie - Official Site
I like the style of this site. Not only does the art design fit well with the film, there's plenty of clips from the movies used as intros, and a huge number of song clips used as background music. All the usual extras are here, but some of the bios and the video clips are marked coming soon. Overall it is a fun site, but not up to the level of an award-worthy site.
