Per Theater Chart is Rocking

October 15, 2008

Two limited releases performed amazingly on this week's per theater chart with RocknRolla earning first place with an average of $20,672 in seven theaters. Second place went to Happy-Go-Lucky with an average of $18,467 in four. Meanwhile, last week's winner, Rachel Getting Married, remained potent with an average of $16,505, despite tripling its theater count.

No other new releases even came close to the $10,000 mark with Good Dick barely getting halfway there with $5,036. Ashes of Time Redux and Lola Montes were close behind with $4,274 and $4,190 respectively. Nights and Weekends opened with $2,902 in one theater, while Breakfast with Scot earned an average of $2,291 in five. Choose Connor opened below the Mendoza Line with $1,441 in its lone theater, but that was still better than a few new releases this week. For instance, while Billy: The Early Years of Billy Graham earned the most of any of the limited releases in terms of raw dollars, its average was just $681. Finally, Ice Blues and Fall of Hyperion sunk during their openings with averages of $668 and $656 respectively.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Frozen River topped $2 million, but that's as far as it will go.
  • Bottle Shock reached $4 million early in the weekend, but again, that's as far as it will go.
  • The Duchess made it to the top ten over the weekend, and made it to $5 million during its run.
  • As expected, Appaloosa rose all the way to $10 million over the weekend, and it has a chance to reach $15 million by this time next week.
