Slumdog Really is a Millionaire on the Per Theater Chart

November 26, 2008

Slumdog Millionaire remained on top of the Per Theater Chart this week with an average of $29,619. This was just 18% less than last weekend, despite tripling its theater count and that makes its performance all the more impressive. The only other film in the $10,000 club was the overall box office leader, Twilight, which earned an average of $20,368 in 3,400 theaters.

None of the rest of the new releases really came close to that mark. The next best was I Can't Think Straight with an average of $5,080 in three theaters. Havard Beats Yale was relatively close behind with $4,607, also in three theaters. Yuvvraaj and Special were neck-and-neck with $3,433 and $3,232 respectively. One Day You'll Understand failed to reach the Mendoza Line by a huge margin with an average of just $678 in 6 theaters.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • What Just Happened? reached $1 million just before the weekend, but that's as far as it'll go.
  • I've Loved You So Long hit $1 million just before the weekend and it has a shot at $2 million eventually.
  • Slumdog Millionaire nearly earned $1 million over the weekend alone, and it almost had $2 million at the end of the weekend.
  • Happy-Go-Lucky reached $2 million over the weekend and $3 million isn't that far away.
  • The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas had its best weekend of its early run, earning more than $1 million from Friday to Sunday, while it now has $2 million in total.
