International Top of the Chart - Another Week, Another Milestone for Bond

November 26, 2008

Quantum of Solace opened in two more major markets, which helped it remain in first place with $40.40 million on 10,373 screens in 67 markets for a total of $308.53 million internationally and $417.32 million worldwide. It is now the second highest grossing film in the franchise internationally and the and the third best worldwide, and it has yet to open in Japan where its predecessor made nearly $20 million.

The two markets it opened in this week were Australia and Spain and it managed to win with ease in both places. In the former, it brought in $6.11 million on 476 screens over the weekend for a total of $7.44 million. Its weekend haul represented roughly 75% of the total box office. Meanwhile in the latter it was not quite as dominant, but still earned $5.15 million on 534 screens.

Other million dollar markets included...

  • U.K. - $4.29 million on 527 screens over the weekend and $67.26 million after four
  • Germany - $4.13 million on 845 screens over the weekend and $32.02 million after three
  • China - $2.78 million on 700 screens over the weekend and $19.44 million after three
  • France - $1.77 million on 686 screens over the weekend and $28.19 million after four
  • Switzerland - $1.17 million on 169 screens over the weekend and $8.22 million after three
  • Netherlands - $1.01 million on 101 screens over the weekend and $5.66 million after three
Quantum of Solace's legs have not been as long or as strong as expected, which means Casino Royale's international and worldwide totals might be safe. We will have a better idea when it opens in Japan early next year.

The second place film this week was Body of Lies, but we will go more in-depth on the rest of the top 30 on Sunday.
