Taking the Fight out of the Per Theatre Charts

January 24, 2006

Not one film could reach the $10,000 per theatre average mark this weekend, with Why We Fight coming the closest with $8,929.

On the other hand, there were a few films that managed to reach a milestone during the past week.

  • The Matador reached it first milestone midweek and is already halfway to $2 million.
  • Casanova hit $10 million over the weekend, but because it is shedding theatres fast, that will be the last milestone for the film.
  • The same can't be said of Match Point, which had its best weekend on its way to $10 million. It's the first Woody Allen film to do so since 2000's Small Time Crooks.
  • One last note, Brokeback Mountain topped $40 million over the weekend, but has reached the top five and has graduated from limited release to wide release and won't be tracked here anymore.
